It is fast moving and suitable for hardworking candidates who have a creative flair, a lively and tactful personality with a genuine interest in people. It is challenging and varied covering a range of skills to enable candidates to enter the barbering industry where they will be cutting, styling and colouring clients hair.

What you need to know
How will I study?

If you are aged 16-18 years you will follow a study programme consisting of English, Maths, Enterprise, Work Experience, Barbering and Enrichment activities. If you achieve GCSE grade D or E in English or Maths then you will re-sit your GCSE in these subjects. If your GCSE grades in English and Maths are below an F grade then you will do Functional skills in both subjects. The skills developed by the learner include: • Client consultation for hair services • Colour and lighten hair • Cut men's hair • Style men’s hair • Shampoo and condition the hair and scalp • Cut facial hair • Health & Safety • Promote products and services to clients • Reception duties • Working in the hair industry • Create an image based on a theme • Display a stock to promote sales
How will I be taught?

The delivery of this course will be a combination of demonstrations, practical sessions, structured theory delivery, group work, self-directed study, classroom discussions, research and lectures. External guest speakers are invited in throughout the year.
How will I be assessed?

Practical skills will be assessed through observation and feedback. Theory knowledge will be assessed through a combination of written assignments, on-line exams, oral questioning and presentations.
