About this course

This course is most suitable for candidates wanting to gain real salon/barbershop experience whilst attending the Queen Academy of Excellence 1 day per week to complete there NVQ. You will be qualified to work as a stylist or barber, and continue to level 3

This course doesn't not require any previous experience as full training is provided.
A good knowledge of English.

Enrolment will require previous attainment of level 1 or a skills test or interview. A good knowledge of maths and English is not essential as we will help you through your functional skills throughout the course

Queens Academy of Excellence VTCT Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Barbering (QCF) is a substantial vocational qualification for learners seeking a career as an employed and/or self-employed junior barber. This qualification is based on the Level 2 Barbering National Occupational Standards (NOS) and is recognised by the UK's leading professional association (The British Barbering Association - BBA) as being fit for purpose for preparing learners for a career as a junior barber.

Entry onto this qualification can be via previous attainment of a Level 1 qualification in hairdressing/barbering and/or a successful skills test and interview.

This qualification includes all the required elements to work effectively as a junior barber including: health and safety; client consultation; shampooing and conditioning hair; basic haircuts; blow dry and finishing and cutting facial hair to shape.

  • Advise and consult with clients

  • Shampoo and conditioning (treat the hair and scalp)

  • Cut hair using basic barbering techniques

  • Cut facial hair to shape using basic techniques

  • Dry and Finish men’s hair

  • Create basic patterns in hair

  • Promote additional services or product to customers

  • All of these units are mandatory

    Changing men's hair colour; creating basic patterns in hair; reception duties and promoting products and services to clients - the full list of optional units is presented in the learner Record of Assessment book (RoA) (specification). This qualification's structure provides learners with the flexibility to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills depending upon their designated career pathway as a junior barber.
