NVQ Level 2 barbering is part practical and part theory aimed at anyone wanting to become a qualified barber.

About this course

To gain a nationally recognised qualification in the Barbering and Hairdressing Industry.
Once you have achieved your NVQ level 2 in Barbering you will be qualified to work freelance or in a salon or simply able to open your own barber shop.

Our FastTrack NVQ Level 2 Barbering Course is aimed at anyone wanting to become a fully qualified barber. Our accelerated and comprehensive course will make you an NVQ qualified barber faster than most other courses in the country.

After your interview day at Queen Academy and upon registration with the awarding body you will be able to start your NVQ . Barber courses in general for 2015 will start the second Tuesday of the month . example Tuesday 13th January 2015. Tuesday 10th February 2015 .

Course programme

This qualification includes all the required elements to work effectively as a junior barber including: health and safety; client consultation; shampooing and conditioning hair; basic haircuts; blow dry and finishing and cutting facial hair to shape.

  • Health and Safety

  • Advise and consult with clients

  • Shampoo and conditioning (treat the hair and scalp)

  • Cut hair using basic barbering techniques

  • Cut facial hair to shape using basic techniques

  • Dry and Finish men’s hair

  • Create basic patterns in hair

  • Promote additional services or product to customers

  • All of these units are mandatory

    Changing men's hair colour; creating basic patterns in hair; reception duties and promoting products and services to clients - the full list of optional units is presented in the learner Record of Assessment book (RoA) (specification). This qualification's structure provides learners with the flexibility to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills depending upon their designated career pathway as a junior barber.

    What could this qualification lead to?



    Learners who complete this qualification are eligible to become a State Registered Graduate Barber (SRB) with The Hairdressing Council.

    Career opportunities as a junior barber exist in a variety of contexts, including:

    - Commercial barber shop/salons
    - Specialist African type hair barber shop/salons
    - Independent/self-employed/mobile/home-based settings
    - Product manufacturing and training
    - Television, film, theatre and media
    - Armed services
    - HM prison service
    - Cruise liners
    - Hospitals/care homes

    Whilst this qualification's primary purpose is to prepare learners for employment as a junior barber, learners may choose to further develop their knowledge and skills by undertaking a Technical Level qualification in barbering at Level 3, these include:

    - VTCT Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Barbering (QCF)
    - VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Barbering (QCF)
    - VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Barbering Studies (QCF)
