Basic Counselling Skills

OCN Level 2

Course Description
The aim of the course is to introduce students to basic counselling skills, which are useful in developing relationships for those acting as formal and informal helpers.

The course is humanistic in orientation, drawing on the work of Carl Rogers, Dave Mearns and Brian Thorne and John Rowan.

The course is very practical; students personal experience is valued as part of shared learning.

The development of personal awareness is an important aspect of the course.

  • Establishing a relationship
Assessment
A mixture of self assessment, peer assessment and tutor assessment. There is no exam
