About this course
None except an interest to learn basic photography techniques. Students should have access to a 35mm film camera for the first 13 weeks and a digital camera for the remainder. Students must supply their own printing materials but all chemistry, inks, hardware and software will be supplied (excluding cameras).

Course summary:
The course is 2 hours per week for 30 weeks and is for beginners or those wishing to revisit basic techniques.
Course content:
This course will be an introduction to photography and photographic processes. Students will have the opportunity to explore the traditional process of black and white film photography before looking at a basic digital photography programme.
- Week 1 to 13 - Traditional black and white photography
- Week 14 to 24 (30) - Basic digital photography
- (Week 25 to 30 - Consolidation and printing for exhibition)
- Introduction to photography - cameras, film, chemistry and paper
- Understanding the rules of composition
- Processing black and white films and printing black and white images in a dark room
- Introduction to the Portrait and the Landscape
- Introduction to digital photography - cameras, storage media, programs
- Improve their photography techniques
Assessment procedure:
A file of work and a workbook are produced which will be internally assessed and externally verified.
