Course programme
The Basic Course is a 5 weeks course. It is designed to teach learners how to sew garments with confidence. Many students who enrol onto this course may have never sewn before, or want to brush up their skills, or learn pattern making from scratch.
The course consists of five main stages:
1. Taking measurements - You will be taught how to take your own measurements and the measuremts of others correctly.
2. Machine control - If you have never touched a sewing machine before thats not a problem, neither have most of our previous students. In this section we will familiarise you with a machine and teach you how to fill the spool and thread the machine, we will then give you a number of tasks that will help you to understand the different function of the machine and increase your precision when sewing.
3. Pattern construction - Patterns are used by designers to ensure the garments that they produce fit every inch of their client perfectly. This a big chunk of the course and it is what the rest of the course revolves around. You will be taught how to make pattern, read patterns and alter them.
4. Garment construction - In this section of the course you will be taught how to join the separate panel, and how to go about the harder parts of the item for example how to add in the shoulders and attach sleeves.
5. Garment finishing - Once you have constructed your garment we will teach you how to perfect your necklines, sleeves, slit etc.
