What are the entry requirements?
You must have a Level 2 qualification in Beauty Therapy. You will be assessed on your English and Maths skills at interview.
After applying you will have an interview to determine which course is suitable for your needs and abilities.
  • Minimum Literacy Level: Level 2

  • Reading: You can read and summarise information by selecting and using different types of documents to obtain relevant information; skim and scan documents to gain a general idea of content and identify the information you need; recognise the writer's intentions and identify the main points, ideas and lines of reasoning; summarise information to suit your purpose. Writing: You can present relevant information in a format that suits your purpose; structure your writing to help readers follow and understand your main points; spell, punctuate and use grammar accurately; construct complex sentences and make your meaning clear.
  • Minimum Numeracy Level: Level 2

  • Interpret information: You can read and understand tables, charts, graphs and diagrams; read and understand numbers used in different ways; estimate amounts and proportions; make accurate observations and select appropriate methods to get the results you need. Carry out calculations: You can carry out calculations involving two or more steps, with numbers of any size, with and without a calculator; work with and convert between fractions, decimals and percentages; convert measurements between systems (e.g. pounds to kilograms); work out areas and volumes; work out dimensions from scale drawings; use proportions and calculate ratios where appropriate; compare sets of data of an appropriate size and use range to describe the spread within sets of data.


What qualification will I receive?
NVQ Level 3 in Beauty Therapy.

Where can it lead?
There are many career paths open to those who successfully achieve Levels 2 and 3, but it is advisable to gain experience in a beauty salon first. Health resorts, cruise liners, sports clubs and day spas are all good way of starting a career in beauty, as they build experience with different types of clients and usually give further training.

What will I study?
You will learn how to assess clients for body treatments, to carry out thorough consultations and give effective aftercare and home-care advice, body massage, electrical treatments for the body and face and their safe use, electrical epilation, Indian head massage, anatomy and physiology, salon management and health and safety.

How will I be taught?
You will study intensive theory and you need to be able to study at home for completion of homework, assignments and revision for tests. You will be required to carry out treatments on each other when learning and then on the general public in the college beauty salon and you will be expected to wear appropriate salon uniform, no false nails and to look professional.

How will I be assessed?
You will be carrying out treatments on the general public which are assessed by observation and oral questioning by your tutor. You will collect evidence to build a portfolio of work. You will have written tests throughout the year on all electrical treatments and anatomy and physiology.
