Beauty Therapy NVQ Level 1

Course Aims:
To provide a knowledge of the beauty industry and the use of beauty products.

Course Content:
Anatomy and physiology
Health and safety
Structure and working practices
Assist with salon reception duties
Prepare and maintain the beauty therapy work areas
Assist with facial treatments
Assist with nail treatments on the hands
Students will also be required to study Key Skills in Maths, English and IT if they do not have a grade C GCSE in these subjects .

Progression:
Successful completion of the course can lead to entry onto NVQ2 Beauty Therapy.

VTCT

Exam:
There is continuous assessment: written, oral and practical. There is an externally set end exam. Portfolio of evidence required.

VTCT Level 1 Certificate in Beauty Therapy

Professional Appearance:
Professional appearance is of paramount importance in the salon, to create the right image to attract clientele. Females: white therapy tunic and white trousers. Low heel white court shoe, closed heel and toe. Males: white therapy tunic, black smart trousers, flat black lace-up shoes. A high standard of personal grooming. Hair must be neat and tidy, black/white accessories only. Nails must not extend beyond fingertips and be unpolished. No artificial nails. No jewellery.White cardigans only.

Other Costs:
A beauty kit is mandatory for this course. This will be discussed at interview.

Duration:
1 year full-time study and a minimum of 6 hours per week home study, to include practical work to develop skills.
