Who The Course is for
This course is for anyone who has achieved all the NVQ Level 2 course units or equivalent. It†s also suitable for experienced therapists who want to learn new skills.

Course Content
On this course, you will study NVQ Level 3 in Beauty Therapy and relevant key skills.
The course includes both practical and theory sessions, practical areas are performed working in the college Beauty Salons covering a range of practical skills in the following areas:
- Health & Safety
- Financial effectiveness of the business
- Swedish Body Massage
- Facial electronics
- Indian Head Massage
- Aromatherapy â€" Pre-blended
- Anatomy & Physiology
- Plus relevant work placement
- Homework
- Body electrics - This optional unit will be available to fully committed students and a fee will be required.
All students must purchase relevant kit from the beauty therapy department. Costs will be discussed at enrolment and during the college induction. Students will be required to carry out treatments on the general public who book in as clients at our reception area. On occasion you will also need to provide a paying model for your practical assessments.
All students must wear the college uniform, which is:
- Long smart black trousers (Purchased by student)
- College tunic (Purchased from the department)
- Low heeled full black smart shoes (Purchased by student)
- Students will be required to remove all visible jewellery including facial piercing during all practical sessions (due to awarding body requirements) and have short nails with no nail polish.
Mobile phones must not be accessed in classrooms and salons unless permission has been sought from the course leader.
If the above is not adhered to you will be asked to leave the salons.
A certain level of manual dexterity will be required for this course.

Entry RequirementsLearning & Assessment Methods
Assessment is by practical observation, oral questioning, case studies, written essential knowledge papers, assignments and end examinations set by the examination awarding body, an Internal/external examiner will assess all portfolio evidence and practical skills.
Qualifications Gained
Successful students will gain a NVQ Level 3 in Beauty Therapy, awarded by VTCT.
Progression Opportunities
Students successfully completing this course may progress to City & Guilds Salon Management.
If you successfully complete a level 3 course at Skelmersdale & Ormskirk College we will offer you a place on an appropriate Foundation Degree at Newcastle College (subject to satisfactory interview or course audition).
