Course programme

This class introduces beginners to the basics of making your own clothes using a shop bought pattern. No previous dressmaking experience is necessary but if you have never used a machine before, you should consider doing our Intro course first.

The course will cover:

· taking body measurements

· understanding and choosing a pattern

· different types of fabrics, choosing a fabric

· threading & using the sewing machine

· cutting, marking, pressing, and using tools and notions

· basic construction techniques

Students will make a simple dress or top - you can choose your own pattern or use one of the patterns we have in the studio.

We welcome students of all shapes and sizes.

Sewing machines are provided. You are welcome to bring your own, but please make sure it is in good working order – we are not mechanics, alas!

Evening classes run 6:30-9pm and the morning class runs 10am-1pm. Next evening start dates are Thurs 1st April, Tue 20th April, Thurs 13th May and Tue 1st June. We start morning classes once we have enough people to run one.
