Course Details
This one-day course is designed to give you an understanding of the law and social responsibilities in relation to the sale of alcohol to the public.
Who should attend
Anyone in England, Wales or Northern Ireland who wishes to apply for a personal licence authorising the sale of alcohol to the public.
One of the mandatory requirements that an applicant for a personal licence must satisfy is to prove that they hold an approved licensing qualification such as the BIIAB Level 2 National Certificate for Personal Licence Holders ("NCPLH").
Course Content
The BIIAB NCPLH covers the syllabus set by the government to enable candidates to understand the law in relation to:
- the roles, responsibilities and functions of licensing authorities within the framework of the licensing objectives
- the application process for a personal licence
- the role and legal responsibilities of the personal licence holder, and penalties relating to failure to comply with the law
- the premises licence
- the content and purpose of operating schedules
- the role and duties of the designated premises supervisor
- unauthorised and temporary licensable activities
- rights of entry to licensed premises
- police powers with regard to suspension and closure of licensed premises
- the specific prohibitions for the sale of alcohol
- the strengths of alcoholic drinks, and the effects of alcohol on the human body
- the protection of children from harm
- the responsible retail sale of alcohol.
Preparation
Once your booking has been confirmed you will be sent a NCPLH course handbook. The course handbook is written in an easy-to-follow format and contains all the information that will form the subject of the course and upon which you will be assessed. You should therefore ensure that you spend sufficient time reading through the course handbook before attending the course as this will greatly increase your understanding of the topics that will be covered and the chances of you passing the examination.
Course format
The course will take the form of teaching, discussions, and tests.
Assessment
One multiple-choice examination with 40 questions, which will take place on the same day following the course.
Assessment Result
On passing the examination you will be awarded a BIIAB Level 2 National Certificate for Personal Licence Holders qualification. You will receive your Certificate approximately one to two weeks after you pass the examination.
All successful BIIAB NCPLH candidates will also be entitled to FREE Provisional Membership of the BII valid for a period of six months. The BII will contact all successful candidates directly in this regard.
If you are unsuccessful in the examination you will be entitled to one FREE re-sitting of the examination.
