Course introduction: Adult Nursing is a full-time degree course aimed at developing professional knowledge and understanding in the field of nursing and the application in practical situations. You’ll gain the skills needed to demonstrate your eligibility for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) including: communication and problem solving professional values nursing practice and decision making leadership, management and team working abilities Half of the course will be spent putting theory into practice across the Lothian and Borders area in hospital and community settings. You will graduate ready to work in hospitals and local communities and be eligible to apply for registration with the NMC.

Minimum year 1 SQA Higher BBC preferably to include English or a Literary subject* and a Science** National 5 Grade C in Maths National 5 Grade C in English and Biology required for candidates who do not have these subjects at Higher. A Level CC preferably to include English or a Literary subject* and a Science** GCSE Grade C in Maths.  GCSE Grade C in English and Biology or Double Award Science required for candidates who do not have these subjects at A Level.

Course programme

Consisting of equal parts of theory and practical elements, Adult Nursing is delivered full-time over three years. You will study a combination of theory and practice modules including: Theory and skills applied to nursing Perspectives of health and professional practice Social and life sciences applied to nursing; approaches to health in adulthood Healthy lives; acute adult nursing A holistic approach to adult nursing; professional, ethical and legal issues in healthcare Complexities of adult nursing Advancing practice through research Achieving professionalism An option and six practice modules Work Placement Work placements make up per cent of the course content.
