About this course

Anyone who is 16 years or older and is in employment, either paid or voluntary, within a veterinary practice. The practice does not have to be an approved Training Practice. There are no formal entry qualifications.

You must work within all areas of the practice to some extent and carry out a range of duties such as; reception, nursing, prep, theatre.

Course programme

The Animal Nursing Assistant Correspondence Course

The content of the course syllabus has been divided across the 10 fully comprehensive study packs with subjects designed to compliment each other in each individual pack. The study packs are sent at a frequency set by the student. Learning is monitored on an ongoing basis via the use of the Review Test associated with each study pack.

These tests are not mandatory and the answer sheets can be provided upon request. Practical guidance is supplied in each pack along with extra written work to be completed at the students discretion. Full guidance is given regarding the completion of the mandatory case log book and on all aspects of the course.

The ABC Level 2 Certificate in for Animal Nursing Assistants is made up of the following 8 mandatory units:

Unit 1 Anatomy and Physiology of the Dog and Cat

Unit 2 Anatomy and Physiology - reptiles, birds, fish and small animals

Unit 3 Veterinary Animal Management

Unit 4 Animal Care and Pet Ownership

Unit 5 Basic Veterinary Nursing Skills

Unit 6 Animal Health and Hygiene

Unit 7 Veterinary Reception and Administration

Unit 8 Veterinary Sales and Finance Skills
