Designed for : People seeking a basic qualification in book-keeping and accounts. The course provides an understanding of book-keeping and accounts within a business/secretarial studies foundation course. This could also be the foundation upon which to progress within this particular area of study.

Objectives : Candidates will be able to

Course Content:
. Applying principles of accounting in the preparation of accounts statements.
. Recording of assets and liabilities.
. Distinguish between revenue and capital expenditure.
. Illustrate the relationship of net profit to the capital account.
. Preparing capital accounts.
. Interpreting basic accounting terms and documentation.
. Recording by double-entry boo-keeping.
. Preparing a two column cash book to record receipts and payments.
. Preparing bank accounts reconciling bank statements.
. Preparing petty cash book.
. Balancing the ledger accounts.
. Extracting trial balance from the ledger accounts and discuss its uses and limitations.
. Preparing simple trading and profit and loss accounts from the trial balance.
. Preparing simple balance sheet in vertical and horizontal formats.

Assessment:

The course will lead to an external examination conducted by Pitman examinations institute and relevant certificates will be issued upon successful completion.
