Bricklaying

The 5-day Bricklaying course is a hands-on practical course where you learn the theory while actually building with bricks and mortar. You will learn the skill of handling a trowel correctly from day one.

On this course you will be taught

handling and storage of materials

foundations and footings

mortar mixes

setting out, squaring and the use of the 'Guage Rod'

different kinds of bonding brickwork - building walls in Stretcher Bond and English Garden Wall Bond

You will be taught how to

use a level in levelling and plumbing brickwork

use hammer and bolster to accurately cut bricks

use line and corner blocks to lay bricks true and plumb

spread mortar neatly without smearing the bricks

butter the bricks to form a solid joint

point up brickwork to present a neat clean finish

build brick piers
