Progression:
On successful completion of this course you can progress to the Level 3 Diploma in Bricklaying at the College.
Entry Requirements:
In our experience in order to be successful on this level of course you will need one of the following:
• four GCSEs at grades D-F (including English and maths)
• a BTEC foundation diploma in a related subject
• an NVQ level 1/technical certificate in a related subject
• successful completion of the Gateway/Newstart course
• successful completion of the E2E/Prince's Trust course
• equivalent qualifications or relevant work experience.
Duration: Two years
Business Benefits:
On completion of this course students will achieve an NVQ level 2 qualification.
Course Overview
What does the course involve?:
You can attend either day release for two years or block release, which is 16 weeks in the first year and ten weeks in the second year, plus one week each year for key skills - both are supported by on-site experience.
The main subject areas include health and safety, industry organisation, scaffolding, setting out buildings, and brick and block walling.
You are provided with a work evidence diary to record what you do on site - this is a requirement of the course.
When can I study?:
Mondays and Tuesdays, 9.00am - 5.00pm
Are there any exams?:
You will be assessed under simulated working conditions within the construction workshops, lecture rooms and construction site. Real workplace assessment may also take place on coordinated College/employer projects. Evidence from the workplace must be provided by the student.
