Bricklaying - Pre Apprenticeship (Level 2)

Short Description: This 1 year course is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge to pursue a career in bricklaying.

Content:
Where will it take me? Successful completion of the course can enable students to go directly to work as an Apprentice bricklayer and study on the Level 2 Apprenticeship programme, which then leads to Level 3. Higher Education options are also available, including Higher National Certificate/Diploma in Construction, which can lead to management positions within the industry.

What's it all about? This course is designed to equip you with the skills required to develop a career in bricklaying.

Subjects studied will include:

- Storing materials and equipment
- Erecting and dismantling basic working platforms
- Working efficiently
- Brick and blockwork walling
- Setting out basic buildings
- Constructing walling detail
- Signalling for the movement of loads

You will be required to complete Essential Skills in Literacy Numeracy and IT if you do not have a GCSE grade C in English, Maths or IT.

How will this course make me more employable? Students will work 3 days per week in industry. Successful completion of the course shall lead to employment in the bricklaying trade or higher education courses.

How will I be assessed? You will complete a series of written, online and practical tests.
