You do not need to be employed within your chosen trade to undertake this course as it will teach you the underpinning knowledge required as well as ‘building’ your practical skills. You can then progress to the Level 2 and Level 3 courses where you will be introduced to the whole building experience and develop all the knowledge and skills you need to become a professional. You will continue to develop your practical skills and theoretical knowledge required for this well-respected craft in the building industry.

Course programme

• Selection is by interview. • You should have successfully completed the Brickwork Level 2 Diploma or equivalent and have relevant functional skills. Course Content The course has practical activities and some written theory. Portfolio-building consists of the following units: • Safe working practices in construction • Information, quantities and communication • Building methods and construction technology • Repair and maintain masonry structures • Erect complex masonry structures • Carry out structural and decorative brickwork. How will I be assessed? You will be assessed through practical assignments, but you will also take written theory papers throughout the course. For Level 3 you will also take end of unit synoptic tests throughout the course. Progression Students who completed this course have successfully gained employment in the construction industry or self-employment. Fees • If you are aged 16-18 as of 31 August on the year of enrolment – no course fee. • If you are over 19 as of 31 August and enrolling on a full-time programme of study a tuition fee will be applicable in most cases.
