This course is aimed at students interested in the flourishing interface between chemical and biological science, processing and biotechnology. The course is based on a core of chemistry and chemical engineering with a strong additional content of biosciences subjects. Graduates will be well equipped to meet the needs of the wide variety of rapidly developing industries looking for skills in these closely interrelated fields.
Year 1
Your first year modules will cover all aspects of Chemistry including Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry and Biological Chemistry, as well as Mathematics.
Year 2
You will study core modules in: Chemical Analysis; Organic Chemistry II; Inorganic Chemistry II; Polymer I; Key Literature Skills in Biological Chemistry; Forensic Toxicology.
Placement year
The placement year allows you to set your studies in context by taking a placement in the UK or abroad, gaining valuable and practical experience. We have excellent links with industry and will help to arrange this placement for you.
Final year
Final year core modules are offered in: Advances in Biomaterials Science; Organic Chemistry III; Advances in Lipid Chemistry; Immunology and Immunoassays; High-throughput Synthesis and Peptide Chemistry; Biological Chemistry Research Project.
