Course programme

The criminology degree examines social definitions of criminal behaviours, the consequences for people who transgress these societal boundaries and the impact of their actions upon victims and society more broadly. These often conflicting aspects are studied from within both a contemporary and an historical perspective.

The Criminology Degree will provide you with an insight into criminological and criminal justice theories, including psychological, sociological, and legal approaches to the subject. There is also training in the basic methods of criminological research which will provide you with the skills for critical evaluation of both theory and empirical studies within this field.

Criminology Degrees and Employability

A Criminology Degree provides an excellent academic foundation for those considering careers in the Police, the Prison Service and the National Probation Service. It is also appropriate for those interested in a career in regulatory fields such as Trading Standards and HM Revenue and Customs, or as intelligence analysts for the Police and Security Services. The degree also provides the research and analytical background necessary for postgraduate study in this and related disciplines.
