About the course
Our BSc Health Care Practice is for you if you’ve already started learning with us; your prior courses and experiential learning will both be taken into account, and we will assess what additional learning you need to complete to qualify for our degree course
As a flexible programme, you can arrange to study in the way that accommodates your prior learning and which will best suit your individual needs
We recommend you get in touch to arrange a “pathway discussion” with our Director of Continuing Professional Development, Vikki-Jo Scott, who will guide you in planning your studies to suit your role and career aspirations
Our course provides you with a degree-level qualification and advances your knowledge of health care
You gain the knowledge and skills to help improve health and social care, and consequently patient care, and develop your confidence in professional practice
Professional, statutory and regulatory bodies
We are committed to embedding the NHS Constitution Values (which are strongly reflected in our University values) into everything we do
They define the behaviours and expectations of all our staff and students underpinning the work we do in the university, clinical arena and other workplaces
We understand that not all of our students and staff are employed within the NHS but these values uphold the underlying principles of excellent care as a standard, and as such we expect that anyone who cares for others will aspire to uphold these values

Course programme
Studying at Essex is about discovering yourself, so your course combines compulsory and optional modules to make sure you gain key knowledge in the discipline, while having as much freedom as possible to explore your own interests. Our research-led teaching is continually evolving to address the latest challenges and breakthroughs in the field, therefore to ensure your course is as relevant and up-to-date as possible your core module structure may be subject to change.
For many of our courses you’ll have a wide range of optional modules to choose from – those listed in this example structure are just a selection of those available. The opportunity to take optional modules will depend on the number of core modules within any year of the course. In many instances, the flexibility to take optional modules increases as you progress through the course.
Our Programme Specification gives more detail about the structure available to our current first-year students, including details of all optional modules.
