Course programme
Course description: This one year top up programme builds on the Foundation Degree (FdSc) Sport Health and Exercise, to give you BSc (Hons) qualification.
All of City College Norwich’s Degree programmes are validated by the UEA, meaning that the quality of the awards you get is assured by a world renowned Higher Education organisation. The UEA is a UK top 20 and world top 150 university.
The programme will develop a wide variety of essential sports related knoweldge and employability skills. The course is delivered in modules, which will include:
Teaching Physical Education. Understand the background issues and practice of the current teaching of Physical Education.
Sport Development. Examine the development of policy and planning for sport within a range of private, public, commercial and voluntary sectors.
Advanced fitness and training. Carry out training regimes based on an advanced academic grounding and techniques. Mainly practical where you will examine fitness components, apply different training principles and analyse the fitness needs of a specific sporting activity and evaluate training programmes.
Health promotion. Provides a theoretical knowledge base of the health education and health promotion.
Exercise for specific populations. Develops your knowledge of the different approaches that need to be considered when teachers and coaches work with different age groups, ethnicity, gender, age, illness and disability.
Sport and the media. Understand the relationship between sport, individuals and various forms of media.
Dissertation. Choose, undertake and report upon a major investigation of a selected topic relevant to the sport, health and exercise industry.
The programme is delivered through a mix of workshops, lectures, seminars, practical sessions, tutorials and self directed study. The emphasis of learning is placed with the student. You will be expected to build upon lectures and seminars using these as a learning platform, alongside group and peer discussion.
Entry requirements: You will normally have completed a Foundation Degree or similar equivalent such as 240 level 4 and 5 credits in a similar discipline.
For example, applicants will come from:
CCN FdSc Sport, Health and Exercise graduates with 240 credits (120 level 4 and 120 level 5).
Graduates from other Higher Education Institutions with similar fit specific sports Foundation Degrees will have conditional acceptance onto the programme.
Graduates with ‘reasonable fit’ Foundation Degrees i.e. Biology may have to complete bridging units prior to commencing the programme.
HND diplomats with 180 credits (120 level 1/4 and 60 Level 2/5) will complete bridging units prior commencing on the articulated progression route.
Applications from international students with comparable qualifications are welcomed
Students should typically have a GCSE Maths and English at C or above (or equivalent).
Applications from students whose first language is not English are welcome. We require evidence of proficiency in English (including writing, speaking, listening and reading), the required minimum is:
IELTS (SELT): 6.0 overall (minimum 5.5 in all components)

Assessment: Your work will be assessed thorough a mix of written assignments, both individually and as part of a group, portfolios, presentations, time constrained exercises, practical assessments, open and closed book exams and conventional essays.
Module specification sheets may refer to assessment by examination, however the tern refers to various forms of time-constrained assessment, from unseen and seen exam papers, fully open book, through open open notes to traditional closed book examinations.
