COMP1322 Over the last decade the multimedia and entertainment sector, including web design and development and computer games, has grown to be a multi-billion dollar global industry employing thousands of computer programmers, designers and multimedia specialists.

Looking at the requirement of the multimedia industry, it becomes clear that, although traditional programming expertise is still needed, the industry requires a new range of skills including the understanding of user interfaces, user requirements, graphics, animation and virtual reality, together with a proficiency in audio and video production techniques that traditional computing graduates lack.

Course Description

Outcome

Career opportunities exist in the multimedia industry to provide the necessary computing input and technological support into the multimedia production effort. Additionally, many mainstream computing areas such as IT support and consultancy, and internet and e-commerce applications provide career paths for graduates. Graduates can expect to work as independent consultants or in teams with other computing and creative industries professionals to build and support modern multimedia computing systems.

Assessment

Year one and two all modules are mainly assessed by one or multiple assignment(s). All the courses listed are compulsory and may subject to change. The changes will be notified to the students before time.

Year three 15-credit courses are all assessed by one examination (50%) and one coursework assignment (50%). For the project, students are required to design and implement software, to demonstrate the software and to submit a project dissertation. A relevant literature study must be carried out and the findings written up in the dissertation. The examinations and assignments are set by the University of Greenwich and take place twice per year.
