Course programme

Course detail
Operating Department Practitioners (ODPs) are skilled healthcare professionals, working as part of the multidisciplinary perioperative team (with surgeons, anaesthetists and theatre nurses), in order to carry out intricate and complex clinical procedures.

This course is designed to prepare you to safely, competently and compassionately, assess, manage and evaluate the physical and psychological needs of patients of all ages, during the perioperative period. Your clinical skills and competency development will be supported both by an excellent simulation centre within the University, and the time you will spend in clinical practice on placement, which will enable you to gain experience in real work situations.

Following successful completion of the course you will be eligible to apply for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) (requirement in order to practice as an ODP in the UK).
