Course programme

The aim of this course is to provide a coherent and vocationally relevant programme of study which is designed to equip you with the necessary knowledge and skills to progress in your chosen area of practice. This aim will be achieved by providing the following: A learning experience that places you at the centre of the learning process and allows you to build upon existing knowledge and skills Opportunities to construct your own learning through a series of educationally sound, challenging learning experiences Opportunities to reflect critically on module content and its application and potential impact on your professional practice The opportunity to develop into a critical thinking practitioner with extensive knowledge, able to contribute to the standing of the nursing profession You’ll have the flexibility to design a course structure that is personally and professionally relevant to your own career aspirations. With the advice and guidance of the programme leader and a subject advisor, you will choose from a wide range of health and social science modules. You’ll be asked to provide evidence of prior learning, which will allow us to assign advanced standing credits to you and advise how many additional credits you must achieve to gain your award. This is a part-time course and generally lasts one to three years. It can be taken over a longer period, but students must take account of the maximum registration period of five years. You’ll learn by a variety of teaching methods including class-room based delivery and online learning. You’ll graduatre with a BSc Nursing Studies or a BSc (Hons) Nursing Studies. Where the generic title of the award does not align with your area of expertise or practice, a named academic award in field specific practice can be negotiated i.e. BSc Nursing Studies (Child Health); (Mental Health); (Adult); (Learning Disability); (Health Studies). Depending on the academic award gained on your pre-registration programme, you’ll be required to successfully pass a number of modules to allow you to exit with a BSc Nursing Studies ( credits) or BSc (Hons) Nursing Studies ( credits). For example, if you have completed a Diploma of Higher Education in Nursing you’ll already have credits and will therefore be required to study the relevant level modules to gain credits to obtain a BSc degree or credits to obtain BSc (Hons). If you have completed a BN, you’ll will already have credits and will need to complete the relevant level modules to gain credits to obtain a BSc (Hons) degree. Study modules mentioned above are indicative only. Some changes may occur between now and the time that you study. You can view a list of all current modules in our module catalogue.
