Overview
If a career in sports science appeals to you, our 90 Credit Diploma course will give you the understanding you need for a career in the industry. The course focuses on your own development in order to be successful in the industry. You will study anatomy for sport and exercise, hysiology and exercise psychology and exercise sciences. You'll also gain speciliast training in a wide range of sports principles and techniques to improve performance.

Entry Requirements
3 GCSE at grade C or above including English and maths. This is a one year course that is equivalent to 1.5 A levels. You will complete the 90 Credit Diploma course in your first year, and you can then progress onto our Extended Diploma qualification in your second year, in the same subject. This will help you to attain the optional units required to attain the full 3 A level equivalent qualification in your chosen subject.

Skills and Benefits
This qualification is designed as a one year, full-time course covering the underpinning knowledge required for the sport science sector. The course allows progression onto the Extended Diploma in Sport. You will gain the knowledge and skills needed to work in the sports industry. Learn about about the principles of physiology and psychology and components of fitness and explore different training methods. Develop team working skills by organising and leading sports activities and events and carrying out a variety of roles in a team. Organising and taking part in sports events and producing industry standard documents in a variety of formats. Visits to a variety of professional sports organisations and businesses including Manchester Velodrome, Manchester City Football Club, and the FA Museum and regular trips to leading, local universities.

Course Assessment
100% coursework with on-going assessment throughout the course. Options to present your work in a variety of ways: Delivering practical coaching and instruction, giving verbal or online presentations, producing written reports, case studies, graphs or posters and production of video and photographic evidence of practical assessments.

Progression
The course prepares you for entry to study a 2nd year and top up to a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport and Exercise Sciences. The course can also lead into a variety of careers in both the public and private sectors of the Sport & Leisure Industry e.g. sports retail and manufacture, hotel and leisure Industry, sports coaching, sports management and administration, gym instruction, outdoor pursuits centres and activity holidays, sports journalism, jobs in the armed forces and emergency services.
