BTEC Children's Care

This Level 3 course provides UCAS points equal to four A Levels and three equivalent A Level grades. It is especially suited to students who wish to pursue a career in early years, either as an early years practitioner or as a foundation or primary school teacher. Successful completion of the course gives students a license to practice in an early years environment without any further study.
What will I study?
18 Units will be studied over two academic years. These include:

· Positive relationships for children's care, learning and development

· Promoting children's development

· Children's learning activities and play

· Diet and nutrition for children

· Reflecting on and developing practice for children aged 0-8 - this unit requires at least 800 hours of experience to be successfully completed in settings throughout the early years foundation stage and Key Stage 1. Students must reflect on each experience using tutor or mentor reports and their own evaluations and produce four portfolios of work using this and all other forms of support available.
What kind of help will I be given?
Throughout the course students are helped and supported to track their own progress, complete coursework to deadlines and to try to exceed their minimum target grade at all times. All coursework is explained on assignment front sheets which detail how the tasks can be achieved. Written feedback is provided and students are encouraged to upgrade their work using this and all other forms of support available.

What qualification do I need for this course?
You will need grade C or higher in five GCSE subjects, or at least a merit grade on BTEC First Diploma in Health and Social Care or Early Years.
Progression
The National Certificate and Diploma in Health & Social Care and the National Diploma in Children's Care, Learning & Development provide entry to both enable students to progress into higher education or employment, subject to individual university and college entrance requirements.
