What you will do
· Explore and experiment with a wide range of conventional and unconventional materials, techniques and processes
· Develop an individual style in design and making projects
· Learn how to generate, develop and create contemporary ideas in response to a brief
· Experiment and investigate specialist 2D and 3D craft areas in ceramic, textiles, jewellery and varieties of other applied art materials
· Work upon a final major project individual to you and your specialist area of interest
· Develop and build an extensive portfolio of practical 2D and 3D work
· Build up historical and contextual understanding
· Educational visits to local and national museums, galleries, craft centres, working studios and events such as Collect, Origin and New Designers
· Discover future education and career opportunities

Assessment
All units will be internally assessed, with some units being verified through National Standard Sampling by the Awarding Body.

The course is complemented with AS Textiles in the 1st Year. This can be converted to A2 qualification in the 2nd year (subject to agreed criteria of achievement).

What can I do next?
Progression to further study in higher education onto a Degree, Foundation Degree or BTEC HND programme. A wide variety of courses in individual specialist areas or broader multidisciplinary programmes are available for full-time or part-time study, leading to employment or freelance designermaker careers. Some students may progress directly into self-employed design crafts businesses.

Successful completion of the course will enable students to take part in the College Compact arrangement to progress to higher level courses within the college.
