Course Content: This course is designed for a wide range of learners, including those with specific learning disabilities, 14-19 year old learners who require a vocational curriculum, disaffected learners and those who have not yet achieved formal qualifications.
The aim of the qualification is to give learners the opportunity to gain knowledge and understanding of a range of skills with relevance to the area of construction. The course is designed as an introduction to the work place and will help you develop the skills you need to work in the construction industry.
To achieve a full qualification, students must complete at least 6 units.
There are 3 core units: Health and Safety, which is compulsory, Information Technology and Improving your Learning. In addition there are the specialist units, Introduction to Joinery and Introduction to Brickwork and 1 optional unit, Producing a Product. In addition students will study English and Maths as part of their course.
Special Features: Assessment
Learners are assessed through a portfolio of evidence when the learner is ready. Units are assessed by a formal written assignment for each unit which will be both internally and externally verified.
Course Format: Full time (attendance over 15 hours)
Progression: Progression can be either laterally or vertically onto other qualifications.
Students who successfully complete the course at Entry Level 3 may be able to progress onto a Level 1 Brickwork or Joinery course. Students who achieve Entry Level 1 or Entry Level 2 qualifications have a choice of either repeating the same programme but at a higher level or studying for an Entry Level qualification in another vocational area.
