BTECS ARE CHANGING!
From September 2010 the College will be offering the BTEC Extended Certificate (2 GCSE equivalent).


This course provides a practical and vocational introduction to Media Studies. Through assignment work you will develop an understanding of the processes involved in media production. You will also have the opportunity to develop your own media production skills through producing media products such as radio programmes, short films and magazines. Understanding and analysing media products is another major aspect of the course.
Possible units of study include: Video Production, Audio Production, Print Production, Advertising Production and Photography Techniques.

ENTRY RECOMMENDATIONS:
Available to Access course students, who typically will have either four GCSE subjects at grade D or above, or a BTEC Foundation Certificate in a related subject.
ASSESSMENT:
All units are internally assessed and externally moderated. The final Certificate is equivalent to two GCSEs.
PROGRESSION:
The course provides a good basic grounding in some of the skills required for employment in the media industry. In addition you will develop more general skills relevant to further study or employment such as organisational skills, team-working skills and effective time management. Progression could be to Applied A level Media Studies, A level Media Studies or Film Studies.
