BTEC FIRST DIPLOMA IN CONSTRUCTION

Who is this course for?

If you have a keen interest in construction and have less than four GCSEs this course is for you.

How long is this course for?
1 year full time
What will I study?
The BTEC First Diploma in Construction consists of three core units plus three specialist units.

Core Units
  • An Introduction to the Construction Industry
  • Exploring Health, Safety and Welfare in Construction
  • The Use of Science and Mathematics in Construction

Specialist Units are chosen from a bank of units covering one of the following areas:
  • Construction Methods
  • Brickwork Operations

Practical work such as construction drawing and laboratory experiments are incorporated into the course to develop student potential. Students will also take the City and Guilds Autocad 4351/07 unit in computer aided drawing to supplement their studies

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed by set coursework for each unit of study. An integral part of the First Diploma is the Essential Skills support programme for Numeracy and Literacy. This is mandatory for all students not holding a Grade C or higher in their GCSE Maths and/or English on entry to the course.

Students will be assessed at entry stage and allocated an appropriate Essential Skills target level to work towards and support them in eventually achieving their GCSE grades.

What can I do after the course?

After successful completion of the course you can progress to the National Diploma in Construction or to do NVQ Plumbing or Electrical Installation.
