What is this course about? A-level 2 course to expand your knowledge of health and social care. You complete work experience in a health and social care setting.

Who is this course for? Young people aged 16-18.

What do I need to get on the course? You need four GCSEs at grade D or above including one humanities subject or a GNVQ Foundation or BTEC First Diploma with merit or distinction and basic/key skills in communication and application of number at level 1. You must show evidence of an interest in health and social care. You must provide one reference and attend an interview, where you can show your record of achievement or other examples of work. Some work experience in the care services would be useful.

What will I study? Units include: Communication and Individual Rights within Health and Social Care Sectors, Individual Needs in health and social care sectors, Vocational experience in Health and Social Care Setting. You will have the opportunity to develop your key skills: communications, number and IT keyskills, . An ESOL qualification is also offered if appropriate.

What qualification will I get? BTEC First Diploma in Health and Social Care Edexcel

What can I do after the course? Successful students may progress to:

· A-Level Health and Social care

· BTEC National Diploma in Health Studies

· Access courses, including Access to Nursing, Social Work and other Health Care Professions

· Employment in health and social care.

How do I get on the course? For September 2009 entry - complete a College application form, followed by interview.

How much does the course cost? Home students aged 16-18 do not pay the course fee. Concessionary students aged 19 or over pay a £40 registration annual charge which covers any courses where concessions are available. There is a £40 fee for a CRB check.
