Who is this course for?
This course is designed as an introduction to working in a caring situation, e.g. care support worker, or for those who wish to progress onto a caring course at a higher level.

What will I learn?
The course has two compulsory units - Communication and Individual Rights; Individual Needs in the Health and Social Care sector. It also has four optional units - Vocational Experience; Anatomy and Physiology; Lifespan Development and Diet and Health. Work placement is an integral part of the course.In addition students will gain certificates in Basic First Aid and Essential Food Hygiene.The Key Skills undertaken are Communication, Application of Number, Information Technology and Working with Others.

Assessment
All units are assessed by assignments which are completed throughout the course. There is no examination for BTEC or Key Skills. The First Aid certificate is awarded at the end of the course by verbal and practical

Assessment. The Food Hygiene Certificate is tested externally.

On Completion Achievement / Progression
You may wish to gain employment in a caring situation or progress to other courses. Successful completion of the BTEC Diploma with Merit / Distinction gives you the necessary qualifications to progress to the BTEC National Diploma in Health and Social Care or CACHE Diploma in Childcare and Education, subject to suitability.
