What will I study?
A First Diploma is a practical, work-related course. Students learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. It introduces students to the employment area chosen and provides a good basis to go to a more advanced work-related qualification. A First Diploma is equivalent to four GCSEs grades A* - C.

How can I progress?
A First Diploma prepares students for employment and for progression to the BTEC National Diploma.

What will I need to qualify for this course?
Students will normally need to have at least one of the following: *A standard of literacy and numeracy supported by a general education equivalent to 4 GCSEs at grades D-G, *Related work experience (mature applicants), *A Foundation Certificate in a related subject, *Other related level 1 or 2 qualifications.

Course Structure
The course is made up of six units - three core units that everyone takes and three specialist units. The specialist units enable students to study particular areas in more depth. All students take three core units: * Understanding the Media, * Research for Media Production #, * Media Skills Development #, You take three specialist units: * Video Production, * Print Production, * Advertising Production, * Animation Techniques. # denotes a unit assessed via a Final Major Project (FMP)
