Students will require a Merit or Distinction and a GCSE English C grade to progress to Advanced Level Study.

Are there any additional requirements?
Materials:
Approx £25 towards textbooks. In addition there are likely to be visits to cinemas and exhibitions of the moving image, which will incur costs.

What is the course about?
This course will provide the skills and knowledge to go on to Advanced Level Study.
The course comprises of six units, including two half units. The work is a combination of practical production and theoretical analysis, in roughly equal measure, involving the investigation of a range of media products and industries, and the planning and production of video, print and advertising products.
The units include:
Unit 1: Introduction to Media Industries (0.5)
Unit 2: Research for Media Production
Unit 3: Intro to Media Audiences and Products (0.5)
Unit 4: Video Production
Unit 6: Print Production
Unit 7: Advertising Production
Unit 13: Factual Production for the Media

Research Skills
Research Skills are an important element of every programme within the Sixth Form College. All Intermediate Level students will enter for the appropriate IT Plus qualification (Level 2) during the first year.

Study Skills
As part of Stanmore Sixth Form College's excellent support network, Literacy and Numeracy support is available to any student enrolled on a course, depending on the student's individual needs (determined during Induction by an assessment). Support is provided through the Skills for Life Study Plus Programme. Students can attend either one-to-one or group sessions in a friendly, stimulating and supportive environment.
