BTEC FIRST DIPLOMA MUSIC
The course is designed to enable you to:
· Learn about how the music industry operates
· Plan and put on a performance event from start to finish, how to rehearse effectively and how to perform on stage
· Be taught music theory to back up technical playing skills, and how to develop your listening skills through musical analysis
· Develop research skills and presentation.
Is it for me?
The course suits those who are open to learning and playing new styles of music and who are serious about their music. You need to be willing to have a go, to try something new, and to enjoy working as part of a team. This course is taken over 1 year, is equivalent to four GCSE's and assessment is mostly coursework based. What's involved?
Planning & Creating a Music Product
Within this unit you will learn the purpose of and how to carry out the planning requirements for the creation of a music product as well as being able to take part in its developmental process.
Exploring the Music Profession
This unit will help you to understand different areas of the music profession and the professional roles within the industry. You will develop the skills in how to apply financial and marketing planning practices to a specific music project .
Solo Musical Performance
You will learn the repertoire for your instrument and how to choose appropriate pieces of music for performance. You will be prepared in how to prepare for a solo performance and will have the opportunity to perform music to an audience.
Working as a Musical Ensemble
This unit looks at different musical ensembles and the roles within them and considers how to devise, plan and prepare for a performance as part of an ensemble. You will have the opportunity to present an ensemble performance.
Understanding Music
In this unit you will learn about the structure of pieces from different styles/genres of music. You will also examine how melodic material is developed within pieces of music from different styles/genres of music and explore tonalities, harmonies and rhythms. You will also cover the role of notations and how to interpret them.
Exploring an Area of Music
Within this unit you will learn how to identify an appropriate subject for research. You will plan a research project, taking deadlines into account, carry out research, selecting relevant information from a range of sources and then present the results of research in an appropriate way.
