Who is the course for?
The BTEC First Diploma in Music has been developed to offer a wide variety of specialist training for musicians at Level 2. So if you are looking for a career in the music industry such as recording artist, composer or session musician then this course is for you.

What is the course about?
During the course you will have the opportunity to acquire skills and knowledge across a broad range of areas including:

Understanding Music
Planning and Creating a Music Product
Exploring Musical Composition
Exploring the Music Profession
Rehearsal Techniques for Musicians
Producing a Musical Recording

All BTEC First Diploma students will complete a diagnostic first semester to include general performance related skills.

Will I need anything else?
You will be required to have your own instrument or drumsticks (we have 3 drum kits, Amps, PA etc.) as well as leads,strings etc.

How long & often do I attend?
This course is offered as a one year substantial programme and requires attendance of several lectures, practical sessions and workshops per week. You will be required to attend for a minimum of 90%.

How will I be assessed?
For each unit (subject) you will be required to complete a minimum of 2 assignments and present a portfolio of work. The size and format of the assignments will vary according to the subject.

What opportunities will this lead to?
This course provides opportunities for learners to gain a nationally recognised vocationally specific qualification to enter employment in the performing arts sector or to progress to further education vocational qualifications such as the Edexcel Level 3 BTEC National in Music Practice or Music Production.
