Four specialist units

* Understanding Music
* Exploring Musical Improvisation
Unit 1: Planning and Creating a Music Product
This unit encourages learners to develop their planning, preparation and/or rehearsal skills whilst working towards a final showcase of their work, which could be a public performance, an audio CD or podcast.
Unit 2: Exploring the Music Profession Learners will explore the variety of roles and careers available within the music industry and gain an understanding of issues such as budgeting, funding and marketing.
Unit 6: Working as a Musical Ensemble Learners become part of a musical team, concentrating on the processes and skills involved in working together towards a performance.
Unit 9: Producing a Musical Recording
The ability to use studio recording equipment to produce a music product is becoming essential to all musicians. This unit introduces some of the technology and techniques involved in creating commercial recordings.
Unit 10: Understanding Music This unit shows learners how to read simple music notation alongside other formats, such as lead sheets, graphic scores or guitar tabs. By listening to a variety of pieces and finding out how they are constructed, learners can apply their new skills and explore a wide range of music which lies outside their usual styles.
Unit 12: Exploring Musical Improvisation Many working musicians often have to â€-think on their feet†â€" to develop material quickly, to respond to previously unheard music, to invent and perform parts (or even solos) with little or no notice. This unit will focus on the development of listening skills and the ability to perform spontaneously and musically with others.
