Want to study music seriously?

Platform One is an independent organisation that works in partnership with the Isle of Wight College and the University College Chichester in order to provide high quality music and music technology provision at all levels.

All music courses are based in Platform One's own dedicated premises which is a 5 minute walk from the Isle of Wight College. Platform One facilities include three professional recording studios, music post production facilities, a specialist music technology suite, fully equipped rehearsal rooms classrooms and a DJ technology resource. Endorsement deals with Marshall Amplification, Ashdown Engineering, Pearl Drums, Vestax, Peavey International and Audient ensure that industry standard, quality equipment is available to all students studying with Platform One.

Students studying at Platform One have all of the benefits of accessing the facilities offered by the Isle of Wight College. This includes student services, student welfare, careers advice, Learning Resource Centre, IT facilities and additional courses, where appropriate.

The BTec First Diploma in Music is a brand new Level 2 qualification which is equivalent to studying six GCSEs. The course is designed as a one year stand alone music course for students who have not yet formally studied music. It is essential that applicants already play a musical instrument or sing to a basic level. Students successfully completing this level 2 qualification with a merit/distinction grade profile would be eligible to apply for the National Diploma, 2 year course based at Platform One which is an ideal progression route.

The course is structured and delivered in units as described below:
  • Planning and Creating a Music Project
  • Exploring the Music Profession
  • Exploring Musical Composition
  • Rehearsal Techniques for Musicians
  • Understanding Music
  • Developing as a Musical Performer
