What can I progress to?
BTEC First Performing Arts could lead to employment in the Arts and Entertainments Industry, or students may use their skills to transfer into alternative training/employment. If students achieve a Merit overall on the First Diploma (and have a grade C in GCSE English) they may be able to progress to the BTEC National Diploma in Performing Arts at Stanmore Sixth Form College.

Extra Curricular Activities
All students can add to their main programme of study by taking part in a wide range of clubs, groups, societies and courses. Not only are the activities fun, they also develop skills and provide new and fulfilling experiences.

What is the course about?
A BTEC First Diploma is a practical, work related course. Students learn by completing performance based projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. It will provide students with the basis to go on to a more advanced work-related qualification.
The BTEC First consists of six units, covering all aspects of the performing arts, including Dance, Drama, Music and Stagecraft.

Core Unit
·Unit 1: Production Project - this is a double unit.

Specialist Units
·Unit 2: The Performing Arts Business
·Unit 3: Acting
·Unit 4: Design for Actors and Performers
·Unit 5: Understanding Dance.Students will also gain valuable experience from work related assignments and practical work experience. They will combine all of their production and performing skills into a final externally-assessed piece.

Employment Skills
If not you will also be required to undertake an invaluable study into employment skills, to prepare you for the demanding Performing Arts business.
Students will require an overall Merit Profile and a 'C' in GCSE English or equivalent to progress to Advanced Level study.

By continuous assessment - practical assignments, projects and research.
