BTEC First Diploma in Public Services(2010/2011)
Study Method:
The BTEC First Diploma comprises of 3 core units and 3 optional units.
Duration :One year full-time study.
Who the Course is For:
The BTEC First Diploma in Public Services has been designed to introduce students to work within the public sector.
The programme would be of particular benefit to individuals who wish to enter and pursue a career in the following services:
The Ambulance Service
The Police Service
The Fire Service
The Prison Service
HM Customs & Excise
The Armed Forces, Army, Royal Air Force, Royal Navy and the Marines.
Assessment:
The programme is continually assessed throughout the year, and students are expected to produce portfolio assignments for each unit.
Students must complete and pass all components of study to achieve the award.
Course Leads To:
An introduction into the public sector and a sound basis for entry into the services own training schemes.
The aim of the qualification is to enable individuals to make informed judgement of their own suitability to a career within some public service organisation.
Successful completion of the programme does not guarantee entry into the chosen service. However, we will liase and work closely with the services to support students in applications to their chosen area.
Entry Requirements:
BTEC First Diploma - Entry Requirements:
A standard of literacy and numeracy supported by equivalent GCSEs at Grade D - G. Minimum of 4
A Foundation GNVQ.

Content:
Units 1-3 are Core Units. The remainder are subject to change.
Unit 1 : Uniformed public services employment
Unit 2 : Public Service Skills
Unit 3 : Uniformed public service fitness
Unit 4 : Citizenship - the individual and society
Unit 7 : The value of sport and recreation in the public services
Unit 10 : Crime and its effects on society.
