The course is made up of units of study that allow you to develop the skills and knowledge required to prepare you for a career in this exciting and worthwhile environment.
Course Units Core and Specialist Units:
· Uniformed Public Services employment
· Public Service skills
· Uniformed Public Service fitness
· The value of sport and recreation in the Public Services
· Land navigation by map and compass
· Adventurous activities and teamwork in the Public Services
Your course is enhanced by Functional Skills and the opportunity to study for other qualifications, which include:
· Functional Skills: Information Technology, Communication and Application of Number
· Opportunity to re-sit GCSE Mathematics or English for those who have achieved a grade D at GCSE
Your course will also include:
· Tutorials
· Assignments and project coursework
· Development of personal, social and presentational skills
· Access to additional support (one-to-one or small groups)
· Visits to local public service providers
· Residential activity
· Fitness training
You will be encouraged to work in groups, to communicate effectively, to identify and resolve problems and to organise yourself and the work of others. During the course, you will have opportunities to learn about word processing, spreadsheets, graphs and databases. You will also have the opportunity to visit local public services to see their equipment and how they operate.
Assessment Throughout the course students will complete a number of assignments for each unit of study.
Further Opportunities
· Progression to National Diploma in Public Services or other BTEC National or GNVQ Advanced courses on successful completion of the course
· Progression to careers within: the Armed Services, the Police Service, the Fire Service, Customs and Excise, Security Services, Prison Service, Ambulance Service, Paramedics or Rescue Services, subject to meeting individual entry requirements.
