BTEC First Diploma in Retailing


Course summary:
We all want to look cool, calm and in control...we all want to look great on a 'hot date'.... But how? Whether or not you're a David Beckham or Jennifer Aniston look-alike, it's fashion that can make the difference!
If you're passionate about fashion... love selling, helping people and are 'into' clothes and textiles...and want to work in a fun, fast-paced environment... this course is perfect!

Course content:
You'll learn all about retail and the fashion industry - how fashion is promoted, selling and merchandising techniques, customer service and fashion display - plus lots more!
You will gain first hand experience in retail, learn the trade, visit fashion events, meet new people and develop your selling skills and aptitudes.
All students study:
* Introduction to Retail
* Customer service and selling
* Merchandising and display
* Fashion retailing
* Work project in a retail outlet
* Advertising and sales in retail

Course structure:
You'll study for one year, full-time.
Teaching is through a combination of classroom learning, visits to retailers and practical work experience. A really varied retail experience.
We've joined with local employers - including John Lewis and M & S to give you the opportunity to practise the skills you learn through work placements. You will gain a first-hand insight into the exciting, interesting world of fashion retail!

Assessment procedure:
There will be NO EXAMS OR TESTS. Assessment by coursework only.

Qualifications achieved:
You'll study towards a BTEC First Diploma in Retailing (with Fashion Specialist units).
First Diplomas are nationally-recognised qualifications which are tailored to industry; so you'll leave us with the practical knowledge and skills you'll need for a successful retailing career. A BTEC 'Activator' booklet will link your work based learning with your course.

Free study and financial support:
Most full-time students do not have to pay for their course. We may also be able to help you with some of the extra costs associated with college, eg travel, childcare, equipment, books etc. In addition, if you have just left school, you may be eligible for an Educational Maintenance Allowance.
