ELECTRONICS & ELECTRICAL
TEN MONTHS FLEXIBLE PART-TIME COURSE
ONE DAY PER WEEK
UNIT-BASED APPLIED PRACTICAL WORK
There are four units to be covered on this course, which leads to the award of BTEC INTRODUCTORY CERTIFICATE. Each unit is assessed by a portfolio of practical work, which the student builds up over the year ready for assessment.
STARTING WORK IN ENGINEERING
Jobs in engineering. Skills needed. Engineering organisations & companies. Job research. Lifestyle factors & careers. How to become a technician.
DEVELOPING SKILLS IN ENGINEERING
Hand tools for cutting and shaping. Preparations, health and safety. Measuring and marking out. Drilling machines. Making components.
FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
Sources of income. Money. Wages from employment. Personal finances. Money management techniques. Budgets and plans.
ELECTRONIC ASSEMBLY & ELECTRICAL WIRING
Precautions, health and safety. Checking & testing electronic components. Circuit diagrams. Electronic assembly production. Checking & testing electrical components. Electrical circuit diagrams. Construct electrical circuits.
A highly practical, introductory course with a wide ranging background in underpinning knowledge and skills, aiming at craft-level operators and junior technicians employed in general electrical and electronics engineering. Also leads to Advanced/National Certificate courses.
Confident students will also be encouraged to take the KEY SKILLS units, including INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY.
