This is a short 40 hour introduction to counselling skills and theory. Counselling skills are communication and listening skills useful in any situation where communication is necessary and perhaps difficult. The course focuses on practical skills acquisition, and also introduces three models of counselling: the Psychodnamic, Person-Centred and Cognitive Behavioural approaches. It is available at many college campuses, usually in the evening. The course begins at different times of the year to facilitate all students. It acts as an access to the remainder of the counselling training programme and is recommended to those who want to progress to counselling training. It is a taster course to determine if counselling training is appropriate and desirable.

About this course
