This is a sports course aimed at those seeking a career in sport, particularly sports coaching, fitness instruction or the leisure industry. There is a mixture of practical and theory units that aim to develop a student’s readiness for work by improve their knowledge and understanding of sport and personal and social confidence in equal measure.
Students on this course will not have achieved a grade A-C in GCSE English or Maths, so they will do either a GCSE resit or Functional Skills to help them achieve a grade A-C grade.

Course programme

Below are examples of the units you will study. Organising a Sports Event Training for Fitness Coaching Sport Being Organised in Sport Developing a Personal Progression Plan You will develop a wide range of skills that will benefit you in a career in sport. These will include: communication, organisation, leadership, teamwork, presenting, researching and officiating. To work with children (under 18) or vulnerable adults students you will need to complete a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) application. The college will organise this for you, but you may have to pay. The estimated cost of the check is £44. Full details regarding payment and documents required will be provided prior to enrolment. There is the opportunity to be involved in the Colleges Sports Academies and there will be a number of residential trips taking place throughout the year. This course is delivered at our Park Lane Campus and Keighley College A pass in this course and an improvement in English and Maths can lead onto a level 2 programme including; Sport Studies, Operational Services or Fitness Instructors in the Sports Department. Students can also apply for a level two programme in different department in college. Students may also progress onto an apprenticeship.
