Who is this course for?
This learning programme is an introduction to the types of employment available within the health and social care industry. This full-time one-year learning programme contains practical units that support personal career development. This learning programme also contains Functional Skills English, Maths and ICT that will allow, on successful completion progression to the level 2 Health and Social Care course to unlock further employment opportunities within the expanding health services sector. You will have an assigned Personal Tutor who will help guide your career development. You will need a minimum of four GCSEs grade D to F or equivalent and at least a grade F in English and Maths. The course’s focus is mainly practical and will allow the student to practise the skills needed for a higher level course that will help with employment progression. You will be assessed mainly through workbooklets and observation. All Health and Social Care jobs involve numeracy, literacy and ICT and students work towards completing these successfully through either Functional Skills English, Maths and ICT or GCSE (if you have gained a grade D you will study GCSE maths and / or English, if you have grades below a D then you will undertake Functional Skills). All students will have Functional Skills / GCSE support and students will sit an exam towards the end of the year to show how much they have progressed.
What other experience will I gain?
You will gain invaluable experience of being taught by our industry experts who will design your lessons and assessments to reflect the level and the requirements of the sector. You will get many opportunities to take part in projects, volunteering and charity work. You will develop your independent and professional skills required to progress onto higher level programmes of study or uniformed services employment. There may be educational visits and visiting speakers that will help career development and these may need to be arranged outside your normal timetable. Community involvement is becoming an essential part of employer entry requirements and learners are encouraged to volunteer within the community.
