Course programme
Course description: This course includes a high level of practical work, including a variety of work placements. The academic standard also satisfies the entry requirements of nursing and professions allied to medicine (such as occupational therapy and speech therapy) as well as universities and colleges.
You will study the following core units:
Development through the life stages
Anatomy and physiology
Personal and professional development
Sociological perspectives
Psychological perspectives
Caring for children and young people
Safeguarding adults and promoting independence
Public health
Physiology of fluid balance
Physiological disorders
Along with other units, an emphasis is placed on developing your personal skills.
Entry requirements: Applicants should have 5 GCSEs at grade C or above including Maths and English, and ideally Science. Successful completion of the BTEC Level 3 90 Credit Diploma in Health and Social Care (Health Studies) leads to progression onto the Extended Diploma.
Objective: This is an ideal choice is you want to work in the health and care sector and prefer a vocational alternative to A levels.
Assessment: Assessment is by internally set assignments and course work.
Academic progression: Completion of this course satisfies university entry requirements if you want to go on to further study at degree level, such as the Foundation Degree in Health Studies here at City College.
