Course programme
Course description: This course will develop your knowledge of the core engineering subjects, as well as giving you the chance to specialise in mechanical engineering. You will learn how engineering businesses operate and the factors that affect them and the wider industry.
You will also have the chance to develop and apply the use of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) in a range of engineering projects.

Mechanical principles
Students will achieve a Diploma after successfully completing year 1 and will have the possibility to progress to an Extended Diploma in year 2.
Entry requirements: Applicants should have five GCSEs at grade A* - C including English, Science and Maths (ideally grade A* - B) or a Level 1 Diploma Engineering, or equivalent.
In addition a pre-entry task must be completed to a high standard.
Objective: This is an ideal course for you if you want to develop your engineering skills and explore your opportunities within this innovation-led industry. It is equivalent to two A Levels. The course is also suitable for someone who wants to study engineering at University, or for someone who wants to become a higher technician in this sector.
Academic progression: After successfully completing this programme, you could move up to a Degree, Foundation Degree or HNC/HND programme, or you could move on to an Advanced Apprenticeship with an employer, or to employment with another type of training.
Career progression: The Level 3 Diploma is designed to keep your options open. Throughout the course you will have contact with employers and find out about the huge range of job roles available. You could seek work in a variety of different engineering settings ranging from maintenance to design and development.
