Our BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport and Exercise Sciences is aimed at those seeking an academic qualification equivalent to three A-levels that will allow students to follow a specific route into higher education. Students will complete a 90-Credit Diploma (equivalent to one and a half A-levels) in Sport and Exercise Sciences during Year 1 that will equip them with the fundamental knowledge and understanding of what it takes to work with athletes behind the scenes. During their second year, students will focus on completing their Extended Diploma and solely focus on enhancing their scientific knowledge in relation to sport, science and performance. Course programme

This course is specifically designed to give students the fundamentals of an academic qualification in Sport and Exercise Sciences in Year 1. This is a blended course that combines face to face study and online learning. Example first year units will include: Anatomy for Sport and Exercise Sport and Exercise Physiology Sports Biomechanics Sports Injuries Sport and Exercise Psychology In their second year, students will continue to enhance their knowledge and understanding in the Sports Science field, undertaking more complex units to fully prepare them for higher education. Some of these include: Applied Sport and Exercise Physiology Sport and Exercise Massage Exercise for Specific Groups Research Project and Investigation Applied Sport and Exercise Psychology All students undertaking a course in Sport and Exercise Sciences will carry out a minimum of 50 hours’ work experience as part of their study programme. This course allows you to explore and develop your academic and practical skills while gaining experience in the fundamentals of Sport and Exercise Science, which is an evolving industry. You will develop a wide range of skills that will benefit you in a career in Sports Science. These will include: communication, organisation, leadership, researching, presenting and many more. This course is delivered at the main Park Lane Campus & Keighley College A minimum of 5 GCSE’s at grade C or above including English, maths and science, a Higher Diploma (which is equivalent to 7 GCSEs at Grades A* - C), NVQ2 or Level 2 Diploma at Merit grade with English, maths and science at minimum grade C.

Additional information

This course is equivalent to 3 and a half A Levels. There may also be further opportunities to complete coaching qualifications subject to availability.
